Does the thought of reshaping your curriculum around these new guidelines give you panic attacks? Don't stress! I have a very methodical approach to these things and can help!
The biggest mistake most nurse educators make is that teaching online is the same as teaching in a classroom. I have created and taught courses online for thirty years using many different platforms. Getting student buy-in and engagement is key and there are some strategies I've developed over the years to help.
Don't drive yourself crazy! I can help!
I am a qualitative researcher. This is my area of expertise. But I have also worked on mixed-method proposals and learned how to set up a research team to meet those needs.
I've written several grant proposals in my career. Some were funded and others were not. Some went to NIH and others to private organizations. Through it all, I learned a lot about the process and what was important.
Working on a proposal can be intense. Whether you are a student pursuing a Ph.D or DNP or if you are a faculty member who needs a colleague to run some things by, I can help!
I've also published several articles both in the scholarly and the lay press.
These projects are often done alone and with very little help. But they don't need to be solitary and stressful. I can help!
Every organization, institution, or work setting has a culture. There are specific roles, rituals, beliefs, norms and so much more that can either help you fit in or alienate you.
Nurse educators today are facing many demanding challenges, not the least of which is the increasing pressure to compete with for-profit entities providing some form of nursing education. Students are also under increasing amounts of stress trying to complete degrees while working full-time and caring for their families. There is a lot of potential volatility in this environment! This can lead to moral distress when forced to behave in ways that are not consistent with one’s beliefs or that collide with the culture within a specific work setting.
In my autoethnography, I share many of the issues I had to confront in my career that involved organizational culture. This research helped me put many pieces together to make sense of it all. It also helped me envision possibilities for preventing some of the scenarios I had to face including racism and ageism. There is no doubt in my mind that we need to care for each other so much more! And often that requires someone outside of that setting to share their insights and learned wisdom.
Engage in self-care and if you need a colleague to help you problem-solve a challenging situation within the culture where you work, I can help!
Don't settle for a mentor with less than fifty years experience!
