I've taught online for many years and one of the things that I know to be true about this approach to teaching is this: it must include various media if you want to be really effective in your teaching. You really don't need the internet if all you are going to do is use the written word! It would be easier for you as well as your students to simply print out the content and have it available in the book store for a small fee to cover costs. We need to appreciate that there are those who learn best visually and others who need audio. During the classroom lecture, the audio learner is advantaged but at least the visual leaner can go home and read from a text. When learning online, the audio learner has no other resources unless we provide them.
Over the last few years I have used podcasts for courses that are both online and on campus. Students greatly appreciated this resource! They would download it to their I pods and listen in the car or even in the gym. It was material that reinforced the content I was providing in the class or online. I will be working on a simple way for you to access these podcasts over the next few months, so stay tuned!
