Guest Lecturers

Most of us agree that faculty members cannot be expert in all areas of nursing practice. And in fact, even within a specialty, it's often difficult to teach some content if it is outside the realm of one's experience. At times we bring experts into the classroom to enrich the content presented to students and, let's be honest, maybe even to provide some relief from the intense prep that would otherwise be necessary for that particular class, a win-win situation for both the student and the faculty person!

However, finding and connecting with appropriate guest lecturers can sometimes be challenging, especially in more rural communities. I hope to facilitate some of that networking on this website. Right now, I'm focused on three strategies to bring nursing faculty and guest lecturers together:

1. Using Skype is a great way to bring nursing expertise into your classroom! This technology has improved significantly over the years and these days most colleges and universities have pretty decent internet connections. My daughter lives in Norway and we use Skype, sometimes as long as an hour at a time with no problem. I have also used Skype in the classroom of a very rural university.

2. Another great way to bring particular expertise into your classroom is through podcasts and videos. Several will be made available on this website over the next year. Let me know if you have particular needs and I'll put those at the top of the list! These educational media are offered FREE to my nursing colleagues. However, they are copyrighted and cannot be duplicated or distributed without author approval. The intent is to use them with students in the classroom and possibly online. Contact me for further details!

3. Of course there is always the possibility that someone is living right in your own community and can be physically present to be a guest lecturer. Whenever I find these individuals, I will include them in this listing.

If you have expertise that you would like to share and would like to be listed in this directory, let me know!
